YouTube Wins Superskills

Folks past a certain age are always suspected of being behind the times when it comes to modern technology.
Back in the day when the VCR was first invented, the joke was always that those people always had 12 o'clock flashing.
They were so behind the teckie times that they couldn't even set the clock, let alone program a future recording.

I am not from that generation.
I am sure I was way ahead of the curve when it came to the computer and the internet.
It took me 2 years of searching before I finally bought my first in 1993.
I bothered my friend Richard, a professor of such things at Bryant University in Rhode Island so often that he finally told me if I kept waiting for the ultimate in newness, I might as well wait forever.

It is with this information that I tell you that I still live in a VCR world.
No DVD recorder, no Tivo.
Right now I'm trying to keep up with golf technology and 2 kids.

As Saturday night unfolded, I decided to 'TAPE' the superskills competition on CBC from Hockey Night in Canada.

I smartly checked the TV times which is always 99 and 44/100 % purely accurate.
It read:
NHL Superskills 7:00 to 9 P.M.
Lousy TV movie starts at 9.
So I set the recording for those 2 hours and watched other stuff with my wife.

When the other stuff ended, I popped in the Superskills tape.
As boredom set in.
Saucer passes, YAWN...Fastest skater, DOUBLE YAWN...Accuracy shooting...SNORE !

Fast forward, that's what I'll do...Yeah !
The new contest...The breakaway fancy shot, showoff thing!

Fast forward....Fast forward...Fast forward.
Oh No!

Who’s the techno goof now?
Why could I have ever thought that they'd pull this 2 hour show off in 2 hours?
Didn't even get a sniff of the competition.

Off to the Net!
It's almost midnight, and it's not on line...Not CBC, not nhl.com.

Sunday morning and I’ve got to see it.
CBC...the best they can do is a 4 minute hi lites package of finalists Ryan Getzlaf and Alexandre Ovechkin.
NHL.com...The breakaway shootout buried in a 13 minute package including other events.
Versus..The NHL right holder in the U.S. had a few hi lites of the best in the event.
CBC,NHL,Versus...thanks for next to nothing.

YouTube had it all, from start to finish in 2 files.

Note to NHL:
I know you wanted a YouTube moment, but you didn't have to make people go there to find it !

Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire

Maybe Roger Clemens is telling the truth.
He looks so damn convincing.
But I don't believe him.
I don't believe anybody.
There's only one person that I'm absolutely sure never used performance enhancing drugs.
ME !!!

I'm glad the young Habs I have always believed in are stepping it up.
Christopher Higgins, Thomas Plekanec, Guillaume Latendresse, Andrei Kostitsyn.
Always said, let the kids play.
It takes time.
Once again, wait for the 3 stages.
I hope I can, I think I can, I know I can.
Thought however Carey Price would be part of it all.
Still think so, just not so fast I guess.

At least Bob Gainey doesn't have to worry about being booed
the night his number is retired.

I love upsets when it comes to NFL playoff football
but it can't get any better than a championship Sunday of
Colts at New England and Packers at Dallas.
That would mean 4 home victories this weekend.

I'm not hoping for upsets in golf this year.
Go Tiger.
You either love him or hate him and unless Mike Weir grabs a major or two this year
I'd like to see Tiger take a run at the slam.

All this wasted knowledge and nowhere to dispense it.
I love the NBA, probably know more about it than the NHL now but it doesn't seem that many care about these parts.
At least we get one chance a week to talk hoops with the big man Dwight Walton on the team 990's morning show...
(Wednesday at 9:25 for you Hoop heads)
My surprise special to start the year was the New Orleans Hornets.
They won't win the west but they're getting better.
Who saw Portland coming ?
Lost 50 games last year, lost the first pick in the draft before the season and now this.

Said it before.
I'll say it again...Andre Dawson was a Hall of famer.
Rookie of the year
MVP once....2nd for the award twice.
Top 10 in batting average 5 times.
8 gold gloves.
45th all time in hits
44th in doubles
35th in homers
32nd in RBI
22nd in extra base hits
314 career stolen bases on those knees.
Didn't hit in 2 NLCS.
